Democracy vs Rule of Law
Without the Rule of Law, Democracy will not work. Without the framework of the Law and the system to enforce it, democracy would quickly deteriorate to Rule by Force. So, it is frightening to me that our President appears to be willing to suspend… even ignore… the Rule of Law in favor of “Democracy.” When that happens, Democracy can be expected to eventually descend into mob rule. Are we heading towards that slope?
With brazen declarations of “We Won,” our government and this Administration worked quickly and forcefully in beginning to enact their agenda. Ignoring almost half the voters who preferred the other candidate, they have sprinted, under cover of crisis, to expand the role of the state in our lives and to grab more and more resources from private owners. Setting aside the rule of law… say, contract law in “negotiating” GM’s bankruptcy solutions… or inventing other rule of law… say guaranteeing GM warranties with the full weight of the Federal Government… BHO and his politburo use the democratic “Will of the People,” to justify and to mask their unprecedented power grab.
It is no surprise then that BHO would come down on the side of the “democratically” elected tyrants in Iran and Honduras… and in the case of Honduras, come down AGAINST the Rule of Law.
Jose Manuel Zelaya’s Supreme Court… in a brave stand against Chavez, Castro and Obama… have refused to reinstate the ousted President. How shameful it is for the United States to be on that side of an issue…
Shameful but not surprising.
