When did the Arabs decide that too many Jews were living among them? How complicit were the British in deciding and taking the action to limit the Jewish presence? Why is the 1921 partition of Britain's Palestinian Mandate largely forgotten by history? If
Jordan didn't obtain full independence until March 22, 1946, how was it that Trans-Jordan, (the palestinian Arab state) was forgotten when the UN voted to create the State of Israel? Why have most Arabs continually denied Israel's right to exist and refused to recognize it's existence?
In 1948 Jews danced in the streets celebrating the tiny sliver of a homeland they were given.... The Arabs responded with War that has yet to cease.
Interestingly the
Jordan-Israeli Peace Treaty, defines the border between Jordan and Israel as the Jordan River...
With over 55 years of War by the Arabs on Israel and Arab refusal to make peace, it's time to start discussing the possibility of there being no further division of the land that was the Palestinian Mandate. It's time to recognize that the both Arabs and Jews were made refugees by the 1948 War that the Arabs started.
It's time for a new paradigm, the old assumptions have not worked and are not likely to bring peace in this generation. Through Meryl's questioner we see the vast differences in the assumed facts. Multiply that by millions and add an overdose of world-wide anti-Semitism, and my hope for the future is damaged, my youthful optimism disappears.
I don't believe the Arabs want peace with Israel. I look at their actions for 55 years and take them at their word that the want Israel destroyed and the Jews removed from their midst. I think it's overly idealistic and naive to think ANY agreement that allows the existence of the Jewish State of Israel to remain will be accepted by the Arabs. I pray that I'm wrong.
We are taught to hope for miracles but prepare for the worst. Too many people ignore that advice.
Hope will not bring peace.
